General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Information provided in fulfilment of the statutory duties under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Security and protection of your personal data

Maintaining the confidentiality of the personal data you provide and protecting it against unauthorised access are priorities for us. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure that data protection rules are observed by us and by external service providers.

Definitions

Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. Processing means any operation performed on personal data, including collection, recording, organisation, storage, alteration, retrieval, use, transmission, restriction or deletion.

Restriction of processing marks stored data with the aim of limiting future processing. Profiling is automated processing used to evaluate personal aspects. Pseudonymisation prevents data from being attributed to a specific person without additional information kept separately.

The controller determines the purposes and means of processing; a processor handles data on the controller’s behalf. A recipient is a person or organisation to whom data is disclosed. A third party is anyone other than the data subject, controller, processor and authorised persons. Consent is a freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the data subject’s wishes.

Lawfulness of processing

Personal data may be processed only where a legal basis under Article 6 GDPR exists. These bases include consent, performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, protection of vital interests, a task in the public interest, or a legitimate interest that is not overridden by the rights of the data subject.

Collection of personal data

If you contact us by email or through a form, we store the information you provide in order to answer your request and provide the relevant services. Where necessary or required by law, the data may be passed to processors, recipients or third parties.

When the website is used for information only, we collect the data technically required to display it and maintain stability and security, on the basis of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR:

Use of cookies

Cookies are small text files associated with your browser. They cannot run programs or transmit viruses. They help make online services more user-friendly and effective. The site may use transient cookies, which are deleted when the browser closes, and persistent cookies, which are deleted after a defined period.

Other functions and services

Additional personal data may be needed for other services. We may use carefully selected external providers that are bound by our instructions. If a service is offered jointly with partners or involves a transfer outside the European Economic Area, specific information is provided with that service.

For posts, comments or feedback, the IP address and the date and time may be stored on the basis of our legitimate interest in security and protection against unlawful content.

Children

Our services are generally intended for adults. People under 18 should not send us personal data without the consent of a parent or guardian.

Your rights

You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal. You may also request confirmation of processing and access to its purposes, data categories, recipients, storage period, data source and any automated decision-making.

You have the right to correct inaccurate data, to erasure where the legal requirements are met, to restriction of processing, and to receive data you supplied in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.

For reasons arising from your particular situation, you may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(e) or (f) GDPR, including profiling. You may object to direct marketing at any time. You also have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects, subject to the exceptions laid down by law.

Your right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority and your right to an effective judicial remedy remain unaffected.

YouTube

The website may embed YouTube videos, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited. Starting a video establishes a connection to YouTube’s servers. If you are signed in, the visit may be associated with your profile. More information is available in Google’s privacy policy.

Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses cookies and usage data to analyse visits and prepare reports. IP addresses are shortened where IP anonymisation applies. You can prevent cookies from being stored through your browser settings and use the opt-out browser add-on. See also Google’s privacy policy.

Social media, maps and web fonts

Links to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest are ordinary links rather than social media plug-ins. If you follow one, the platform operator receives at least your IP address and may collect additional data if you are signed in.

Google Maps may transmit data collected during a visit to Google. Google Web Fonts may require a connection to Google’s servers to load fonts. Further information and opt-out options are available in Google’s privacy policy and advertising settings.

When OpenStreetMap maps are displayed, technical visit data may be sent to the OpenStreetMap Foundation. See its privacy policy.

Google AdSense and the Amazon Associates programme

Google AdSense may display advertisements and use cookies or similar technologies to analyse use of the website. More information is available in Google’s privacy policy.
